dream words

There’s a John Lennon song called “#9 Dream” with weird-sounding words in the chorus. I looked up the lyrics the other day and found that the odd words were this:

Ah! böwakawa poussé, poussé
What the heck is that? I Googled on the phase and discovered that Lennon reportedly had a dream in which two women spoke [...]

zoe

Of all our cats, Zoe most loved Seattle weather. She liked to spend time by an open upstairs window looking out into the night and listening to the rain and wind in the trees. She would spend hours and hours napping on the porch just a few feet from the rain, while the other cats [...]

roller video

There’s a short video of some Rat City Roller Girl action here. Also included are clips of people wrestling in a tiny ring and wrestling in a huge bathtub–obviously events that I missed. The video was pretty choppy and a little dark when I watched it, but it does give you a sense of the [...]

fiery wisdom

Earlier this year I tried to describe one of the Fire Pendulums at Burning Man. Now you can view some grainy video footage of one these items in action. OK, much of it is really blurry, but sometimes it clears up and you get a good idea of what it was like. It was [...]

potter vs. conan the barbarian

“The Whole Wide World.” Maggie ordered this one from Netflix. It’s based on the autobiographical story of a woman who knew and loved Robert E. Howard. He was the pulp writer who invented Conan, the Red Skull, and other nasty characters. It’s a good film, directed by Dan Ireland, who used to manage the Seattle [...]

the shape of things

I’ve been reading the book, Kooks, by Donna Kossy. One interesting chapter is about the history of the flat earth movement. In the 1800’s a man named Samuel Rowbotham said the world is a flat, circular plane, like a giant plate. The north pole is in the middle, and the “south pole” is distributed along [...]

bad dad vs voldemart

I saw the movie, “The Squid and the Whale” as part of a film viewing social club event. It’s about two young brothers dealing with dysfunctional, divorcing parents. There are lots of very uncomfortable moments as you watch the parents and the kids make bad decisions. The parents are writers, and intellectually functional, but hopelessly [...]

tinfoil problem

This has been all around the blogosphere, but it bears repeating. There is new research from MIT showing the ineffectiveness of aluminum foil headgear. I’m sure my readers wear tinfoil hats to ward off the mind control radiation emanating from government satellites and enemy spaceships. You may need to put away the foil and turn [...]
