At the Uptown Theater yesterday, Goth-lite kids went to the Twilight movie. Popcorn enthusiasts went to 2012, and me and about three other people were at the matinee for the Herzog film. Bad Lieutenant is a funny movie in a Pulp Fiction/Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas kind of way. You’ve got a cop with [...]

Maggie Netflixilated this movie for us and I was amazed. One of the best films I’ve seen in quite a while. Beautiful, brilliant, and intelligent. Nice soundtrack too. I noticed that many of my favorite films over the past ten years also had excellent soundtracks: “Children of Men,” “Lost in Translation.” Music is a big [...]

District 9
I went in expecting some kind of allegory about apartheid. Wrong. The film begins like a really odd riff on “The Office.” A goofy, ignorant, bureaucrat is put in charge of a slum full of space aliens in South Africa. His clueless bumbling is kind of funny in this bizarre setting. Also strange and [...]

I learned that Phil Ochs wrote [...]

Maggie found this lovely poster to share. “One of the last film noirs ever made,” said she, “but they still knew how to make a boffo poster.” Quite right. They just don’t make ‘em like this any more. The picture has it all–from the gunshots to the Flamingo Club–seeing the poster is like watching the [...]

I managed to safely ride my bicycle to the Metro to see Moon. What do you know? A science fiction movie that’s all about story and not about explosions and monsters. Though made on a low budget, it really works because Sam Rockwell is great and the effects are good enough. (Just don’t think too [...]

I’m back on the dangblog again. For a moment. My hairs are turning gray at a rapid pace. Sheesh. Too much stuff going on for my delicate psychology. Chaos approaches. Sleep recedes.
“Sleep no more! Macbeth does murder sleep!”
I went to the dark version of Macbeth which was created by some folks that I know. Nice [...]
