I don’t think I’ve read that SF story. Sounds like a good one, though. As far as the Higgs boson, I’m a Higgs bozo. I read about six different places online (university physics departments, Wikipedia, etc.) that said the Higgs is predicted by the Standard Model. But the amount I really *know* about this subject is smaller than a quark.

re: planet finding. What was the sci-fi novel/story where one of the plot points was that the Aliens had a method for locating habitable planets that they had to keep from us? We are very closeto such a method, based upon the percentage of Lithium in the composition of a star, we can infer which ones probably have earth-like planets and which don’t.

re: LHC .. we postulate the Higgs Boson as the “carrier of mass” .. doesn’t actually come out of any of the standard Atomic models.

(It’s a lonely blog that comments on its own posts.) Blogging from the WordPress app works pretty well. The dang spellchecker tried to turn “app” into “apparently” and “nuzzling” into “muzzling.” It didn’t ask me, it just did it, causing me to carefully go back and make changes. I’ve had that problem before with Android. I want to be asked, and asked nicely, about what word I really want, before changes are made.

dan-fantastic. love the stories and makes me wanna hop on that nature tour bus next year. (there are so many things to do @ bman; it’s amazing.) something abt the playa, the lake bed has intrigued me since i first experience it. i’ve searched for photos of the playa as a lake (though shallow it may be) and have not had any luck finding any images. none-the-less, thank you for that wonderful bit of into. happy bat-the only living creature at bman-for a short while. can’t wait to see/hear the skeptologist themed camp…looking forward to that!
