go places

Standard

Funny how certain songs will run through your head like a soundtrack to your life. This particular song by the New Pornographers comes at me differently than any of their other stuff. There’s something really poignant and wistful in here. When I think about it, many, many of my favorite songs are poignant and wistful–Nick Drake, Elliott Smith, Brian Wilson, Left Banke.  What that says about me, I don’t know. Excerpts from the lyrics:

Yes a heart will always go one step too far
Come the morning and the four corners I see
What the moral of the back story could be

Come with me, go places

Yes a heart should always go one step too far
Come the morning and the day winding like dreams
Come the morning every blue shade of green
Come with me, go places

Come head-on, full circle
Our arms fill with miracles
Play hearts, kid, they work well
Like magic, play aces
Stay with me, go places
Once more for the ages

I don’t particularly love the travelogue someone made to go with the song in this video, but here’s the song. Nice melody. Neko Case sings it. A.C. Newman most likely wrote it.

Hey, Gretchin! I’m really glad you like this too. And I didn’t mention this before, but I’m pretty excited about Toby being able to stand up in his new shoes.
