I’ve always loved the liner notes that came with the Jayhawks CD, Hollywood Town Hall. Here’s the first paragraph, written by Joe Henry:

“There’s always some fella who comes around late of a morning offering to shovel your walkway, take down your Christmas lights, or hook you into your neighbor’s cable line — who ends up across the table wearing a pair of your old shoes and having coffee with your mother. A strange boy, she says, but nice enough. Even if he does live out of his car, eat with his hat on, and disappear for days at a time.”

I don’t know anything about Joe Henry (just found his Website), but he knows how to tell a story.
