A friend of mine got a “Gobbet o’ Pus” on my iPod! Yuck. It’s the name of a podcast. I think the actual show mentioned was “Persiflagers Infectious Disease Puscast,” but that’s a lengthier show, and I thought the little five-minute Gobbet podcasts would be more, excuse the word, digestible. The Gobbet-casts are short readings from an infectious disease blog. Both podcasts come from the tiny media empire of Mark Crislip, king of infectious disease on the Internet. He’s also the purveyor of “Quackcast” and contributes the Science Based Medicine blog.
I don’t know if I’ll stick with the Pus Gobbets. It’s a little too technical for the layhuman not in the medical field. On the other hand, I’ve been listening to Dan Savage’s Lovecast (also available on iTunes, as are Crislip’s podcasts). It’s a weird combination of “Dear Abby,” the Kama Sutra, and a 400-level Sex Ed class. It’s pretty entertaining, though it can, like, totally squick you out sometimes when you’re not in the mood to hear about bodily fluids and where they might end up.
Next to Lovecast, geoduck clams have the best squick-factor here in the Pacific Northwest.
