I understand that some people want to be organ donors and not ride a bicycle with a helmet. I appreciate their willingness to put their bodies out there for harvesting. But there’s a mystery category of bike rider; not helmet-less, but not wearing one. Today I was bicycling and noticed two different people riding along in traffic with a helmet hanging from the handlebars of their bikes.
- The rider thinks you’re supposed to wear it when you get off the bike. No one explained how it worked.
- If there’s an accident, the rider intends to put the helmet on really fast, in mid-air, before hitting the pavement.
- A helmet is actually a fashion accessory, meant to jauntily swing from the handlebars like an ornament.
- The rider is delivering a helmet to someone with common sense.
